VoIP Phone Companies

VOIP phone companies are businesses that offer the ability to make voice calls using a broadband Internet connection instead of an analog phone line. VoIP stand for Voice over Internet Protocol, so all calls are made over the same lines that your computer uses for high speed Internet service. Some services may only allow a person to call others using the same service, while other services may allow the user to call anyone who has a regular, analog telephone. This could include local, long distance, mobile and international numbers. Additionally, some voice over Internet protocol services only work over a person's computer or a special telephone while other services allow a person to use a regular telephone with a voice over Internet protocol adapter. So what is the advantage to using voice over Internet protocol service over the regular telephone service? The biggest thing is the cost and the second is also the cost, usually one low price a month cover thousands of minutes of calling anywhere in the United States and Canada, and in addition wireless "hot spots" in locations such as airports, parks, and cafes allow you to connect to the Internet and may enable you to use voice over Internet protocol service wirelessly.

One of the real advantages to the many VoIP phone plans is that for a very reasonable price, customers can receive a number of options for which many traditional telephone companies may charge more. Voice over Internet Protocol telephone companies usually offer many other calling features that are often billed as extra charges by typical landline or analog telephone providers. Services such as caller ID, call forwarding, call waiting and many other options are included for free, even on basic calling plans. Additionally, options on landlines such as voicemail, caller ID with name, 411 (Information), three way calling and speed dialing are also included in most of the typical voiceover Internet protocol services. There are usually six different calling plans offered by various Internet telephone companies. They are: Home, Business, International Calls, PC-to-Phone, PC-to-PC, and Cable telephone Service. Look carefully into each type and discover which one is best for your situation. If the greatest incentive for using a voice over Internet protocol is to save money, this new technology will certainly do it.

Voip phone plans are as varied as car company warranties, but not all companies get high ratings in terms of service and quality. Look online at a lineup of various Internet telephone companies and view the ratings consumers give each company. Type in the company name and see what blogs have been written about each company. And while some VoIP phone companies allow a new customer keep your old phone number others do not, so heed the advice that says before anyone gives up a long held phone number ask for the names of some businesses or customers in the area where you live so their opinion of the service and quality of voice reproduction is heard.

So why aren't more people using one of the Internet telephone provider services? First, not everyone has broadband service to the Internet and Voip doesn't work with dialup service. Secondly, this communication protocol will not work if the electricity is off no matter which VoIP phone companies are chosen. So if a person wants this service no matter the conditions, better get a generator or battery powered backup. Thirdly, the sound quality of any VoIP phone protocol is highly suspect because the signal is running down a very broad digital highway (broadband) and there is plenty of room for the signal to wonder all over the road, even when compression is applied to the signal. The result is that echoes are not uncommon, and any promise from any of the many VoIP phone companies that high quality sound will always be present is not playing fair in the game of honesty. Finally, a person can only get phone calls with Voip phone plans if the computer is on and the Voip software is engaged. "Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not and ye shall not be condemned: forgive and ye shall be forgiven." (Luke, 6:37)

It should also be noted that 911 services does not work properly over a VoIP system. In a regular landline situation, the phone company looks at the phone number or the location of the cell tower and uses that information to put the caller in touch with the nearest 911 dispatcher. Dialing 911 on a Voip service will not put the user in contact with a local emergency dispatcher in most cases. Eventually the kinks will be worked out of the system and hopefully voice quality will rise to the expected level of digital service and VoIP phone plans will become the true bargain that at the moment are only bargains in terms of cost, but not in quality or service. As in everything high tech, not only do the prices drop, but the quality rises as the generations mount on models offered to the public.

Voice over Internet protocol services really in their infancy. Compatibility from company to company isn't always reality at this stage of the VoIP business. Who will fix telephone problems if they arise, and how often does the phrase "the computers are down" reach our ears as compared to "the telephones aren't working?" If everything depends on the computer for communication needs, is voice over Internet protocol really a good idea yet? Perhaps waiting till the service grows up a little is the best choice for now.
