Internet phone companies have sprung up on the consumer horizon like flies on honey, and there is a reason. The honey is true telephone bill savings and each of these companies offering what is known as VoIP services can honestly give those price savings over the traditional landlines. In fact, estimates from some experts claim that very soon over fifty percent of all telephone calls made in the world will be made through the services of Internet telephone providers. What makes VoIP services so popular now is that it is not just price savings that can be offered to consumers but also a number of optional services from the traditional telephone companies that always were added on charges now come with IP telephony telephone service as a regular part of the Internet telephone service. So why should a consumer choose one of the many Internet phone companies for his/her service?
VoIP stands for voice over Internet protocol. It is also called IP telephony, but it all means the same. Instead of telephone service over the old two copper twisted wire service offered by the POTS (Plain Old Telephone Service) now Internet phone providers can offer service from computer to computer, or from telephone to telephone through the same lines that the computer uses. Even the POTS, which is really an acronym coined by telephone company employees themselves is using this new technology to their own advantage. The bottom line is that for the consumer, there is a whole new way to save as much as three hundred dollars a year over the traditional landline telephone service.
If a consumer has a traditional landline telephone, it might be that DSL service from his/her existing company might be the choice. DSL stands for digital subscriber line and is a technology that allows the POTS Company to offer blazing speed for computer access and when bundled with digital telephone service, the telephone service charge will be at a smaller price than the traditional landline telephone. This particular type of service that is offered by the existing telephone companies to take advantage of their already in place logistical resources is only available within a particular radius of the phone company's main office in any area. Outlying customers would have to depend on Internet phone providers that offer cable connections using broadband technology for their service. But using a telephone service over the Web using either DSL or broadband cable services will get many standard services only viewed as options on the POTS menu of telephone services. These can include call forwarding, call forwarding ID, caller ID, call waiting, number blockage and many others.
Deciding on using one of the many Internet phone providers will probably come down to cost for most consumers. Here are some helpful things to remember when considering a broadband cable VoIP company. First, there are two ways Internet phone companies can provide service. One is through the computer itself and one is through a specially designed VoIP telephone, but in both cases broadband cable is required. If a computer is used for telephony purposes, then communication can be made by using an inexpensive headset combining a microphone and earphones. If a telephone is used, it may be interfaced with the computer and used as a regular phone.
As much as Internet phone providers try to downplay the issue, the quality for VoIP reproduction is still suspect from time to time. Whines, hisses, echoes and other odd sounds can be present on some calls, although all providers are working to improve the quality. Reviews of various IP telephony companies are easily accessible online and should be read with interest, because much of Internet phone companies' reputations are built on the customer service each one provides when services are interrupted or when individual customers are having technical difficulties and need a non technical speaking person to talk with them. IN addition, there is a problem that may not appear to be an issue until the day it arises and then the problem could be life or death in scope. Internet phone companies do not have traditional 911 services available to them. When a customers of POTS call 911, the dispatcher can tell right away the address from which the telephone call is emanating. When some dials 911 on a cell phone, the dispatcher can at least nail down the nearest cell phone tower location.
But the users of Internet phone providers do not have the technology in place yet to give the emergency dispatcher any information about address or name listed with the call. New government regulations are calling for these IP telephony companies to work as hard as possible to provide as much information as they can to local law enforcement in the event of a 911 call using VoIP technology. But this may not be enough in the case of an unfortunate need to use the service at some point. It can probably be said with some certainty that in the future, both the quality issues and the issue of 911 calls will be solved permanently for IP telephony customers. Until that time, consumers must be forewarned.
Internet phone companies can offer monthly payment as low as ten dollars for introductory rates. If total calling minutes are under five hundred, plans can be as low as fifteen dollars with some providers. But there is even better news available for those wishing to communicate with the God of the universe. First, he does not charge any fee and is open twenty four hours a day. If you are a regular subscriber of His, that is, you are His child through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, anything can be discussed without charge. If a person has not acknowledged their need for Christ, God will always listen to a prayer of repentance and faith in Christ, which opens the door to full and complete access to His very high speed telephone service about anything on your heart.
