Finding ways to scent a car, office, or home can be a powerfully relaxing way to bring sensory beauty to your environment. We'll be exploring methods that can be done.
Carpet Freshener - This is fun and easy to make yourself. Take a pound of baking soda and put in a food processor. Add a few drops of essential oil or fragrance oil of your choosing and blend. Spread out on a shallow pan and allow to dry for several hours, stirring occasionally. Store in an airtight container when done.
You can then either sprinkle this freshener on your carpets directly, allow to sit a few minutes and then vacuum. The other way is to simply put some in your vacuum cleaner bag directly and it'll add scent as your vacuum your carpets.
Try adding to a small saucepan at home some apple cider, cloves, cinnamon sticks and orange peel and simmer on low heat. This release a wonderful, homey scent often bringing memories of comfort and food. Add small amounts of water as the mixture runs low.
Scent a centerpiece with this unique idea. Bake a fresh bundt cake and take a small jar and fill it will fragrant flowers. Set this small jar in the center of the bundt cake. Try different scent combinations. One great one to try is a lemon bundt cake with honeysuckle flowers. The combinations are limitless tho.
Scent your pillows. You can either do a light misting of your favorite perfume (test for color fastness of your linens first), or get an already made linen spray to use. Another method is to insert a small amount of potpourri side a small sachet bag and either pin to the side of the pillow or insert into the pillow case.
Closet or linen drawer scenting. Place dried sprigs of lavender in between layers of towels and sheets and along the sides of the linens. Lavender is both a moth and insect repellent, as well as a calming and soothing scent for humans.
Scent some seashells for a visual and scent pleasure in your bathroom or bedroom. For small shells, soak a couple minutes in olive oil with a couple drops of essential oil added. For large shells, add a couple drops of essential oil directly to the inside of the shell. Then place the shells in a decorative tray or basket.
Scented powder puff. Get some of your favorite scented powder, or even baby powder if that's your preference. Get one of those luxurious powder puffs, and take a long bubble bath. After the bath, pamper yourself with these beautifully scented powders applied with the soft powder puffs. The scent stays with you a long time and is one of those small ways to feel truly pampered and destressed.
Finding ways to incorporate scents, textures, sights and sound can help us relax and combat the stress in our rushed, tension and pressure filled lives. Sometimes simply touches help us to remember to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life.
