Initial Sales Show Samsung’s Instinct To Be A Big Hit

samsung
Sprint’s Wireless Division President John Garcia aptly put it when he said that the Samsung Instinct will be their best selling EVDO handset ever. Barely two weeks after its initial sale, stocks for the Instinct went poof as a result of strong early response from long excited customers.

Even as Sprint expected a big launch placing its largest ever initial order for any EVDO handset, still some Sprint locations depleted their inventory while shortages were reported in other areas. At present, Samsung is working double-time to cope with the huge demand they are facing.

The monstrous sales turn out has been attributed to wireless customers’ appreciation of the Instinct’s innovativeness and utility. A great number of purchases, especially during the early days of the phone’s availability, came from customers who upgraded their existing wireless devices. These customers expressed high confidence in the Instinct’s features, as well as took advantage of Sprint’s irresistible price offering for the smartphone.

Cell Phones for Children

Cell phonesAs you probably already know, Japan’s gadget design trends are the most amazing. You can find there colorful designs with various shapes, some with Swarovski crystals encrusted and even gold phones with diamonds. Pink cell phones are on the top positions in sales and the representative brand is the famous Hello Kitty loved even by adults.

If you are not in Asia and need to find cell phones for children it’s a little bit hard. I can tell you this because I also tried to find at least a few models to choose from but all I’ve found were 3 old phones from 2005, and they didn’t even look cool enough for a child to like it.
Fortunately I’ve discovered at ThinkGeek.com.
2 impressively small cell phones for adults but because of their dimensions I could recommend them as cell phones for children too. Besides these, they provide the latest technologies such as touchscreen and this is a very important aspect if we talk about easy of use and ergonomics if you like.

The first one was announced in a recent press release and it is called the Neon 7 Mini Touchscreen Cell Phone, and when they say it’s a mini, believe me, it’s among the smallest cell phones I’ve seen.
Imagine holding in your hand a 95 X 42 X 11 mm GSM handset with an extremely slim design measuring just 11 mm thick, but with features like touch-sensitive 1.9-inch TFT LCD display of 65K colors, heat sensitive keys, MP3/MP4 player for music and videos, stereo Bluetooth, email support, virtual on-screen full keyboard, a talking menu with intelligent call alert, meaning the phone tells you who is calling by reading the incoming number out loud thanks to the speech synthesis technology, and hand writing recognition. This sounds too much! All these in a tiny mobile phone!
Cell phonesAnd if I tell you that it integrates also a 1.3MP CMOS camera with video recorder and webcam functionalities what would you say?

The Neon 7 Mini Touchscreen Cell Phone from ThinkGeek.com has extended T-Flash a lot support, Speakerphone, image editor, ringtone composer, WAP, organizer, world clock, calendar, to-do list, stop watch, phonebook and even health checker!! So you child would have various stuff to play with but maybe too much for his/her needs!

At just $199.99 the bar phone comes with an ear bud headset, 2 batteries, the AC travel charger, the USB cable, 2 styluses and the manual.

The other cell phone for children I want to show you is the Mini Boombox GSM Cell Phone available at a price of $149.99 at the same ThinkGeek.com online store.
Cell phonesThis 3.5 x 1.3 x 0.8 inches model has a sliding keypad and comes in white. It looks cool and besides that it features MP3 player, tri-band support, GPRS, amplified speakers, SMS group, video player, WAP browser, Speakerphone, voice synthesis technology like the previously described cell phone, 256MB internal memory expandable up to 2GB, USB connectivity, a built-in 1.3MP CMOS camera with camcorder function, video recorder, and sports a 1.5-inch TFT LCD display of 65K colors.
Same as the Neon 7 Mini Touchscreen Cell Phone, it comes with 2 Li-Ion batteries, travel AC charger, stereo headset, USB cable and the user manual.

Hop-On is one of the world’s famous wireless phones and accessories developer but also the first prepaid disposable phones manufacturer. It also provides software for cell phones so you can stream live interactive feed from legal jurisdictions to play poker, blackjack, roulette and baccarat.

Recently the company launched the Hop1800 model worldwide. This cell phone is the world’s cheapest, available at just $10 in the United States. These prepaid disposable phones can be used only for making phone calls.

It’s funny to hear it is promoted as the $10 Anti-iPhone as it doesn’t have a display, but its main features include dual-band support, 4 hours talk time, 150 hours standby, polyphonic ringtones support, vibration, and measures just 96.6 x 41.6 x 14 mm at 77 grams. In addition it uses the Infineon sound chip for high audio quality and call stability.

About the design we have to mention its tactile numeric keypad with Braille markings and the fact that it can be co-branded.

“Though the iPhone is an amazing device, I challenge anyone to make a call faster than with the HOP1800,” said Hop-On CEO Peter Michaels. “With the cost of living and roaming fees going through the roof, the HOP1800 is also the perfect iPhone traveling companion. Project ShapeShift

Project ShapeShiftBloodRabbit finished his latest cell phone design concept and posted it yesterday on Product Design Forums. It is about a Nokia cell phone bringing a new display concept capable of changing its shape.

Project ShapeShiftThe project ShapeShift is a cool idea that could be realized using a similar method with the way ice cubes are shaped in the bag from your fridge, meaning that in that closed space from this bag, the shape is clearly predetermined. Instead of using colors on a screen with pixels, Nokia ShapeShift would have a preset form and would be made of 2 plastic layers, one would be flexible and the second one would be a hard material, while between these layers would be a special liquid characterized by the same refraction and the plastic. When more liquid is puched between the 2 layers, the preset buttons shapes form on the surface.
Project ShapeShift
BloodRabbit imagines this cell phone measuring 11 x 5,5 x 1,2 cm at 125 grams and with a 4-inch display.
