Satellite Phone Sales

Satellite phone sales are a lot like trying to sell Eskimo designed and autographed igloos: the market is pretty small but if you have to have one, you're really not going to kick too much about the price. Satellite cell phones are not cheap, and that is why there are so many that rent or lease rather than buy the little marvels. When a person looks online and searches for satellite phone sales, you will not find a plethora of companies in the business like one might find in regular cell phone sales and service. And there are only three or four manufacturers which bears out the fact learned in Econ 101; the fewer the makers, the more expensive. So, satellite telephones run between eight hundred and three thousand dollars, depending on the make and model.

The three or four satellite phone makers who have their own satellite systems or use other companies' systems have different coverage areas. One company offers coverage over ninety eight percent of the planet, while another specializes in African coverage and a third only has coverage in certain other parts of the world. It would be wise for any buyer to first to intensive research on coverage areas before making a purchase. It should also be noted that there are certain countries where satellite cell phones cannot call. These countries would include North Korea, Poland and Hungary. There are also embargoed countries where these phones are illegal to own or use. These countries are Cuba, Libya, Iran, the Sudan, Angola and Yugoslavia, and it is a sure thing that satellite phone sales are also verboten.

Sales tag line for certain phone companies selling these devices are quick to include the fact that the service can also be used for Internet use anywhere in the world. This can be extremely valuable for certain businesses needing to exchange data with field agents. But there is a very big cost related to this service. When looking at the plans offered by various satellite cell phone providers a typical plan offering three hundred minutes of uploading or downloading a month with a two GB limit on the amount of data exchanged will cost a whopping fifty seven hundred dollars a month! As often said by other, if a person has to ask the price, it probably can't be afforded.

Making all of the communications magic happen in order to feed satellite phone sales are two types of earth orbiting satellites or birds in military parlance. First, there are a handful of very powerful communications birds in geosynchronous orbit at about twenty two thousand five hundred miles above the earth. These high flying relay stations are in strategically placed locations and do not circle the earth. Instead, they sit in place and rotate with the earth. This means that the antenna or dish or other form of sending and receiving device must always be pointed at the relay's locations for a signal to be found. Many of the radio programs that cover the US use these geosynchronous birds to send signals across the country. But the problem with these satellites is that a signal can be blocked by trees, low hanging rocks or sometimes buildings, and users of satellite cell phones using these birds must move to a different location to get a signal.

The remaining products sold from orbiting relay phone sales centers rely on low orbiting birds that rotate the earth every sixty to ninety minutes or so. These birds fly above the earth in orbits of between four hundred and seven hundred miles and run in many different paths giving a good coverage of the entire earth. As many as a hundred or more of the relay units provide a blanket for about ninety eight percent of the globe. Companies selling these satellite cell phones or renting them in many cases are quick to remind customers that if a signal is not established, wait a few minutes and try again because another bird will be swinging by. For a user who is desperate to talk to family or business while on the high seas or in the middle of a roasting desert, the wait may seem like an eternity, but well worth the few minutes of excruciating anticipation. "Take heed to yourselves; if thy brother trespass against thee, rebuke him; and if he repent, forgive him." (Luke 17:3)

It would not be difficult to get excited about being in satellite phone sales if the business were solely about providing rescuers and emergency workers with the tools and devices to save lives. As Hurricane Katrina came roaring into the Gulf States, all phone service was out except for those with satellite phones. When mountain rescuers are looking for stranded skiers and hikers, often the only communication comes through the use of these incredible devices. The amazing things that humankind has wrought brings chills up and down the spine of thoughtful and insightful person everywhere, which would certainly include something like a satellite cell phone and the birds that make them work. The achievements of man and woman can quite easily lead a person to the false conclusion that humans have it within themselves to accomplish anything they set their mind to do. However, the Christian faith has as center to its core beliefs that man cannot now or ever be able to make peace with God by any means except through a personal, authentic relationship with Jesus Christ.
