Check Credit Rating

To check credit rating is important for every consumer because this number shows lenders how reliable a consumer is as a borrower, often making or breaking one's ability to borrow for necessities such as a home or car. In recent years, consumers have been denied or extended lending by financial companies based on a report supplied by one of three major reporting bureaus. The lending organization would check credit score and with no further explanation to the customer, open or deny an account. Now, due to several legal maneuvers by the government, consumers can run their own report with the big three reporting agencies in the U.S.

Under the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) consumers have the right to free financial background reports. Consumers who have been denied lending because of poor check credit score can receive one free personal report from bureau that supplied the report to the lender. Also, with the FCRA, consumers are entitled to one free report a year from each of the three national reporting bureaus. Obtaining a check credit rating free allows consumers to monitor their accounts for false information and for identity fraud. Also, when a consumer is aware of what a report says about him or her, they can better understand how financial systems determine lending approval. Being equipped with information is valuable when seeking credit, insurance, mortgage loans, and many other financial transactions.

When a lending agency runs a name for background clearance, the agency is looking for a numerical point system from somewhere between 375 to 900. The higher the point average, the more responsible the consumer, or the more likely this consumer is to pay their bills in a timely manner. A lower check credit score can mean risk, and insurance agencies and mortgage companies will charge larger interest fees and premiums for those that have a low reporting. The median score for Americans is 723. When consumers check credit rating for their own personal information, finding a 700 score or above will allow them to easily obtain lending and emergency funding when needed.

Knowing one's ranking when it comes to their lending history can help consumers understand the entire reporting systems and how important it is to carry a healthy report. Being aware of what factors contribute to the scoring process can help consumers avoid the pitfalls of negative check credit score numbers. The best place to find more information on this topic is online with the major bureaus which include Experian, Equifax and Transunion. No consumer should be in the dark when they check credit rating. "He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder" (Psalm 107:14).
