Industrial Organizational Psychology

Pursuing an industrial organizational psychology degree involves earning a masters, bachelors or doctorate in studying how people function at work, their behavior in work groups, how more efficiently they can work and how work attitudes can be affected. The accreditation is typically sought after as a master's degree program and usually preceded with a basic bachelor's in psychology or business.

Earning a degree in this field prepares students to enter a workplace and examine how people work together. They learn to answer questions such as how is the work environment set up? Is there an easy way to communicate with the rest of the co-workers and the boss? How are general communications conducted throughout the office? By determining the answers to these and many other questions, the professional with the industrial organizational psychology degree can create a more effective work environment with happier employees. Many large companies benefit from the psychologist's work because happy employees create a better product, and better products sell.

This program also prepares future psychologists to become a human resources professional for a company. They can examine the company and find out who is doing what and how important each job is to the company. People with this masters or doctorate are prepared to determine what jobs are most important in a company and what jobs need to be added. Other types of job requiring an industrial organizational psychology degree would of course be a professor or instructor, workplace psychologist, or workplace motivator.

In choosing a school for this field, students need to look for the credibility of the university, money it will cost, and focus of each program. These are just the major points to focus on. Of course, students want to understand what services each university offers, the reputation of the college, what employers think of the college, and how long it will take to earn.

Deciding when to pursue a degree can be the toughest decision of all. The last thing anyone wants to do is start earning a degree and have to stop because of time or money. Individuals should make sure to evaluate their life and tie up any loose ends before beginning this program. This will increase chances of finishing the industrial organizational psychology degree and the amount of credit one will get out of the studies. It's best for a student to pray that God blesses their studies and leads them to earning this degree in His timing. "My times are in thy hand: deliver me from the hand of mine enemies, and from them that persecute me" (Psalm 31:15).
