Send Father's Day Flowers

Flowers for Father's Day might not be the first gift item that comes to mind when one is in the market for something special. Colorful blooms have long been more associated with females, as is obvious as they are one of the most common gifts come Mother's Day. Bouquets of blossoms have been given to women and girls for many years as gifts, or as ways showing them they are loved and appreciated. Despite the fact that flowers are commonly associated with femininity, there are a lot of men who enjoy vibrant arrays of blossoms as well.

Those who send Father's Day flowers understand that the blooms are a naturally occurring part of nature, created to bring spots of color into possibly otherwise dreary landscapes. Thousands of varieties exist in the world and there are a plethora of meanings surrounding different types, various shades, and differences of color. Nature's natural spots of color are present in almost every celebration, bringing cheer and an element of life. Flowers have the ability to transcend any gender bias and can make a lovely gift for anyone. Perhaps men simply need to show a more sensitive side now and then, what better way than by sending a lovely arrangement of bright, bold blossoms arranged in a tasteful yet creative way.

Before the idea of flowers for Father's Day or any gifts and recognition for that matter, was the idea behind the holiday. There are several theories to the origins and history of Father's Day. There are some historians who believe that the origins date back four thousand years to the time if Babylon. Apparently among the ruins a small, clay tablet was found upon which was inscribed a message believed to be carved by a young boy named Elmesu. He supposedly wrote a few words wherein he wished his father health and a good life. Despite the lack of records validating the existence of Elmesu, there are those that believe he existed, wrote the words, and that the tradition carried on beyond Babylon and into the rest of the world, of well wishes to fathers.

A more modern take on the origins of the holiday and ideas which led to flowers for Father's Day can be traced to a young woman by the name of Sonora Louise Smart Dodd. Many credit Sonora with the efforts put in place to make certain the day become one that was recognized. Sonora was born in 1882 and was the oldest of five children. Her mother died during the birth of the sixth child, and Sonora's father did his best to raise all five of them on his own. His life was not an easy one, being a veteran of the Civil War and having to take on all the responsibilities of raising a family.

In 1909 Sonora heard a sermon about Mother's Day, and decided that if there was a time set aside to honor mothers, why not one honoring fathers? While growing up she recognized all the struggles and sacrifices her father went though in order to give his children the best he could. Sonora respected him for all that he had given of himself and wanted to honor the difficult work of fathers everywhere. Sonora was also inspired by the efforts of Anna Jarvis, who worked very hard in order for Mother's Day to be recognized officially. Sonora was able to enlist the help of the YMCA, Young Men's Christian Association, and the Spokane Ministerial Association. This resulted in Spokane Washington's first celebration of fathers on June 9, 1910. Finally, in 1966 President Lynden Johnson declared that the third Sunday in June should officially be declared as Father's Day, and then in 1972 an official national observance was declared by President Richard Nixon. Sonora was honored for her efforts and contributions to the cause. Today, the holiday is celebrated throughout the world in countries such as Australia, Belgium, New Zealand India, and many others. The idea to send Father's Day flowers most likely originated in the United States but could very well carry over to other parts of the world.

The most common way to show a father appreciation is by sending them a card, but gifts are often given as well. Fathers, grandfathers, stepfathers and uncles all receive gifts or tokens to let them know that they are thought of and valued. Flowers for Father's Day are not a bad idea, in fact, on that can prove to be both different and thoughtful. The holiday even has an official flower, that being the Rose. Rose's are thought to be one of the most beautiful of flowers and is also among the most common. It is not unusual to see people wearing a rose on their person the third Sunday in June as a way to let others know that they honor dads, red for those who are still alive, and white for those who have passed away. Another flower associated with the holiday is the lily. People who send Father's Day flowers might think they have an unusual idea, however bouquets are becoming more popular. Florists make arrangements that are both pretty yet masculine, by using bold colors and striking designs.

Many enjoy to send Father's Day flowers as a unique way to let the special men in their lives know that they help to enliven life with joy and infuse days with color. Even the most masculine men can have a soft side to them, and what better way to bring that side out than by bestowing upon them a lovely arrangement of blossoms. Different types convey an array of meanings, for example, roses can show reverence, while masculinity can be displayed through vibrant colors. Blooms that are tall and sturdy can represent strength, while linear arrangements can represent an organized and thoughtful mind. Father's Day Flowers are an excellent way of providing joy while expressing appreciation and a good way to show "Honour thy father "(Exodus 20:12).
