Used Car Donations To A Charity

Used car donations to a charity are not only giving to valuable organizations that offer help to the needy but as sponsors are receiving something in return. When one gives a vehicle to charity, they are getting the most value for a vehicle that otherwise might not bring in a fair amount. Used car contributions are easy and hassle free, making such contributions a simple task. Both the giver and the receiver benefit from the contributions, and these organizations find that receiving vehicle donations is a wonderful way to get the most out of fundraising, allowing for sizable non-profit benefits and tax deductions and little in administration costs.

When a person decides to make large contributions, they are providing a charity the opportunity to continue with their services, funding many different programs. When an automobile is sold, it generally will generate a good amount of income, and this will help charitable organization stretch their dollars to maximum productivity. Because most non-profits use professional auction companies to handle their used car donations to a charity, the receiving organization has little administrative costs involved and little time and energy spent. Giving a used vehicle, such as van, truck, and sometimes boat, can truly be an excellent gift to those in need as well as an act in line with Jesus' will: "go thy way, sell whatsoever thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven." (Mark 10:21b)

Significant contributions are tax deductible. Once a vehicle is sold, the charity will notify the donor of the amount their used car donations to a charity sold for. The donor may then deduct this amount, or $500, whichever is greater, from their income tax return. This allows the giver to receive a wonderful tax benefit in return for their generous gift. Often, the amount that the automobile is sold for in a professional auction will bring in higher proceeds than if a donor decided to sell their car themselves. Used car donations can also bring a higher value to the vehicle than trading the automobile in with a dealership.

When making large charitable contributions, it is important to know the group that is the recipient of used car donations to a charity. While most are reputable, there are some companies that practice fraud. Any group that is accepting contributions should be a non-profit 501c3 agency. Also, organizations that accept car donations should be government approved and be able to offer proof of this approval. Charities that are operating under government regulations are more than happy to provide enquirers with the needed information.
