Enrolling in web design courses could be a smart move for anyone with a creative eye and an interest in technology. These classes come in a variety of forms from online study, to training software, to tutorials, to associate and bachelor's degrees at actual brick and mortar schools. The kinds of things that are generally studied in these programs might include an understanding of HTML, or hypertext markup language, website designing and content, and basic visual art skills such as color and graphic composition. In addition to these important areas of study, issues such as Internet security and the fundamentals of e-commerce are covered as well. Knowledge on various software programs that are geared toward website creation can be gained through these courses. At the completion of this course work, individuals can earn web design certification in any number of areas including programming, security, technologies, graphics, Internet business, and multimedia. Online classes offer students the flexibility of working from home at their own pace and at a time that is convenient for them. Of course, one major benefit of enrolling in classes that take place in a physical classroom is the presence and immediate feedback of an instructor.
Some of the typical web design courses might include step by step website building instruction using popular software programs. Topics such as the intended audience of the website and how to make the site optimized for search engine queries are generally covered. As study progresses, most of these classes expect that a student will be able to create and publish a web site that functions fully and is easy to navigate and visually pleasing. Selecting and preparing appropriate photos and illustrations for the site is another important skill. Computer programs that specialize in digital photo preparation and enhancement often require a great deal of training and skill. Most courses of study in website designing will offer extensive training in this important area. Some of the graphics arts skills that are studied could include learning to master the curves function, the use of vector shapes, dealing with gradients, applying drop shadows, building a layout, mastering the slice tool, and importing and exporting files.
While these and other important graphic and technical skills are mastered, the option to pursue web design certification becomes more realistic. As a student pursues this goal, they will need to learn how to create homepages that will attract Internet visitors. Once those visitors have been drawn to the site, the site will need to be easily navigated and designed in a way that provides easy functioning for guests. These kinds of skills are generally covered in web design courses along with such topics as how to add links to a site, how to insert photos and text, image preparation, logo creation, and adding keywords to copy and creating links to these keywords. Learning the steps that are involved in publishing a web site is important as well. Once a web site has been published, students can also learn how to use elements of the site to create various marketing materials such as company letterheads, business cards and brochures that echo the design elements of the website.
As expertise in this area of technology grows, web design certification is available in a wide variety of specializations. To qualify for these certificates, the web design student will generally need to complete a specific course of study. Some programs will allow the student to be rewarded credit for verifiable outside training or in the field experience. After passing all of the required classes there is usually an application process involved before a certificate is awarded. There may also be extra fees assessed before certification is granted. Tuition fees for all of the required coursework can vary from school to school. There are many different levels of certification and these levels are generally broken down into beginner level, intermediate level, and advanced level. All are geared toward giving the student increasing skill and expertise in this vital field. The Bible talks about the importance of knowledge. "When wisdom entereth into thine heart, and knowledge is pleasant unto thy soul, discretion shall preserve thee, understanding shall keep thee." (Proverbs 2:10)
These web design courses can often cover a wide variety of specializations. Beginner designing certificates tend to cover such basics as graphics and how to use them, hypertext markup language, effective page layout, style sheets and how to use a browser. These tasks must be mastered before moving on to the more advanced skills. Another other type of web design certification is the CIW Associate. This certification is earned by passing an exam. The CWD, or Certified Web Designer and the CAW, or Certified Associate Web Master accreditations show that the holder of these certifications has passed an exam that covers basic Internet, scripting and design knowledge. Other types of basic web design certification include the HRML Developer Certificate and the CIP, or the Certified Internet Professional. At the intermediate stage the student is required to possess knowledge and experience beyond just the basics in areas of coding and scripting as well as a certain level of professional experience. Some of these certifications could include the AWP, or Associate Webmaster Professional, and the MX Developer Certification. Some accreditations are offered by various software companies and usually deal with the skills needed to master a particular program or application. Advanced endorsements include the CIW Master, the CWP, and the Global Knowledge Webmaster. Many of these certifications include knowledge of e-business, security, databases, and marketing.
