Australian Outback

Travel to Australia to see the only continent in the world that is also a self ruled country and an island. This unique place is nestled between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, with the closest neighbor, Papua New Guinea, to the North. Australia has a land area of almost 3 million square miles, with 16,000 miles of coast line. The continent is slightly smaller than the United States. In order to travel there, a tourist would have to fly into one of the major cities; Canberra, Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, or Perth. Australia has a population of over 20 million people; 92% White/Caucasian, 7% Asian, and 1% from Aboriginal descent.

People go to Australia from all over the world to see the "Great Barrier Reef". Visitors can tour the massive reef on a catamaran water craft. The reef extends 2300 km in length off the Northeast coast from Queensland down to Bundaberg. If ever there was a reason to travel to Australia, surely seeing the largest barrier reef in the world would be one. The second largest reef is located off the coast of Mexico stretching from the Mexican city of Cancun, down through the bottom of Belize. Divers go to this incredibly unique region to explore the marine underworld that surrounds the Great Barrier Reef.

Australia's distinguished geographic isolation fosters the growth of extremely unique flora and fauna. Major industries in this country include mining, industrial and transportation equipment, and food processing. If an individual will travel to Australia, they will see that export and import are necessary for modern survival. The native language is English, although a visitor in the "Land down under" will notice a distinct accent. Australia has a democratic federal state system government. It received its independence from federalism of the UK colonies on Jan 1st, 1901. The structure of the government is led by the Governor General whom the queen appoints. The Prime Minister, who the citizens vote for, as well as a cabinet, a bicameral legislature and an independent judiciary make up the complete government system.

The majority of the people living in Australia are Christian. The Anglican denomination holds 26% of the population, as does the Roman Catholic denomination. Other Christian denominations make up 24%, and only 11% of the population represents non-Christians. Many missionaries travel to Australia to experience a culture, and to continue to spread God's word to those that do not understand the unbelievable sacrifice His Son made so that our sins would be washed away. Fortunately Christians have the freedom in Australia to spread the Gospel. "Sing unto the Lord, all the earth; shew forth from day to day his salvation" (1 Chronicles 16:23). A trip to this adventurous land can be one done for pleasure or spiritual purpose. Travel the "Land down under" and discover one of God's wonders.
