You realise that you (or someone close to you) needs help for their addiction. What options then have you got when it comes to alcoholism addiction treatment and treatment for drug addiction?
In my opinion, you should always try and make rehab/treatment program your first choice. You'll typically spend 4-6 weeks getting clean and off the drugs/alcohol. (The length of your stay can vary depending on the treatment center you go to)
Why would rehab or an inpatient program be my first choice? Because it not only helps you detox - but with its intensive therapy and counselling will help you deal with a lot of the emotional baggage that causes you to drink and take drugs.
Getting that same level of quality care and treatment is much harder if you don't go to rehab. And just as importantly, a good rehab or treatment center not only helps you get clean, but prepares you for a life outside its walls in terms of equipping you to maintain your sobriety once you leave.
Many people have a perception that rehab is unaffordable and so is realistically never going to happen. There are a lot of treatment centers however, that have government backing, and so make it possible for just about anyone to go.
Rehab would always be my first choice, but what other options have you got? You could look at Addiction and Alcoholism Self-Help methods. By working on yourself emotionally, physically, mentally and spiritually - you have the ability to transform your life. Alternative Alcoholism Treatment and Addiction Treatment options are becoming increasingly popular. I definitely think there is a place for alternative alcoholism and addiction treatment - but I would recommend using these in conjunction with a more mainstream or traditional way, especially to begin with at least - because again it is that much harder doing it without the help of addiction treatment professionals.
When it comes to ultimately choosing the best alcoholism addiction treatment or treatment for drug addiction - I do believe going to rehab should be priority number one. Your alcoholism self help/addiction and alcoholism alternative methods certainly do have a part to play - but the specialist treatment a rehab can provide will just give you the best possible chance.
