Clothing Donation

A clothing donation is a great way to help people out in their time of need and free up space in the donors closet. Sadly it seems like many families and individuals in the United States and around the world have been struck by unfortunate accidents, caught up in natural disasters, live in worn torn nations, or have become the victims of poverty. Clothing donations assist families and individuals, helping to alleviate their cost of living expenses. Also, giving clothing, money, time, or other items demonstrates God's love to those in need.

There are many different types of organizations that a person can work with to provide clothes and other necessities. There are public charities such as the Salvation Army, United Way, or the Red Cross that an individual can seek to make clothing donations. The Salvation Army has resale shops for individuals of any income level to go and purchase used items. The money generated from sales is put back in the organization to help more people. Many of the large public charities ensure that when a person donates money or food or makes a clothing donation the resources are donated to people in need. Many of them share information amongst themselves to ensure that certain families and individuals are not taking advantage of their generosity.

If an individual would prefer to offer assistance to a private Christian charity there are numerous organizations to choose from. There are many larger organizations such as Samaritan's Purse, Food for the Hungry, Feed the Children, etc. But a person can also make a clothing donation to a local shelter or ministry. In some cases where there is no local organization, a person can become ambitious and start their own ministry where they provide clothing donations to needy families in the area, the elderly in nursing homes, or the mentally challenged living in group homes. There are many ways and opportunities to provide and give aid to those in need.

Providing clothes to a charitable group may not seem like much, but this act of kindness could open the door for someone tell others about Jesus Christ's greatest act of kindness, His sacrificial love and charity. While Jesus time on earth was short, He taught much on the need for charitable giving, even in the form of a clothing donation. "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. And the second is like unto it, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself" (Matthew 37-39). Taking the time to care for others, by giving time, money, or clothing donations is a great way to keep this commandment.
