Charity Fundraiser

Charity fund raisers are events designed to bring in donations to nonprofit organizations. These fundraisers are needed because these nonprofits offer services with little or no pay in return and help fill the need for operating expenses. Even though many organizations do receive some funds from state and/or federal tax dollars as well as private grants, the needs tend to outgrow the resources quickly. Given these financial needs, a well-planned and well-executed charity fundraiser can be a tremendous blessing in terms of added resources.

This can be a small event, such as a bake sale in the lobby of a local department store, or a large event, such as a state-wide televised appeal for funds with popular entertainers donating their time and talents. Some organizations employ full-time personnel, whose sole responsibility is to manage a busy calendar of special events. Some nonprofit organizations utilize their Board of Directors for this purpose. This group of people is tasked with coming up with ideas and implementing them successfully. Hiring someone to work on the next charity fundraiser will cost some money, of course, but the return on the investment could prove to be excellent! Revelation 3:20 encourages all efforts towards God's goodness by saying "Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me." Since residents of many communities are often inundated with requests for donations, successful organizations know that they need to hold unique and fun charity fund raisers.

Simply sending out a direct mail campaign and asking for money is probably not going to yield much in the way of new revenue. Creativity is the key to successful charity fund raisers. Some well-known companies offer their products at a significant discount so that that the nonprofit organization can mark them up and sell them at a profit. These products can include candy bars, candles, or gift wrap. Thinking bigger, people can try to locate big-ticket prizes that can be auctioned or raffled off at a charity fundraiser. For example, many people would love the chance to win a hot-air balloon ride or limousine transportation to a major league sporting event.

Fortunately, companies with marketing expertise offer solutions to organizations that need help coming up with new and exciting and profitable charity fund raisers. These companies work closely with the charities to determine what their needs are and then offer doable suggestions. They may be able to tell about a charity fundraiser that worked well in a similar community elsewhere in the country. Or perhaps one of their ideas will spark another idea for a completely different option. One of the biggest advantages of working with professionals is that staff and volunteers can continue to concentrate on doing what they do best within the organization, rather than focusing their efforts, which may not be their area of expertise.
