Counselors will offer analyses of a financial situation as well as strategies to improve it. Financial counselors also should offer educational opportunities so that the person is learning how to manage finances for the long term. As people make efforts to improve their financial condition, remember to "seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)

The Internet and the yellow pages both are good places to look for free credit counseling services. Some of the free financial services are offered to those who are income eligible. Other non-profit agencies may offer free credit counseling, or offer them for a sliding fee to make the service more affordable for people who need help repairing their finances. In addition, some financial planners offer educational seminars at no charge, and and open them to the public. Not only does this help the financial planner promote business, but also allows them to help others. On the other hand, be aware of those who say they will offer a free credit counseling service, when really they are just using the no-cost service to "get people in the door." The bottom line is that everyone is responsible for how they handle their finances. Oftentimes, it may take some wise counsel to help get finances back on track.
