Consumer Credit Counseling Centers

A consumer credit counseling center is advantageous for the consumer who finds himself with mounting debt problems. Solutions may be found through these services to help with elimination of debt and budget management. Advertisements on the Internet claim to save the consumer up to 50 percent on current debt. Professionals will work with each client to devise a plan that will tackle the financial problems. Once creditors have been notified by consumer credit counseling centers of the consumer's intentions, then negotiations are started between him and the creditor. Working with each lender on negotiation for payoff may result in paying less than originally owed to creditors.

Eliminating unsecured loans through consumer credit counseling centers will have a positive affect on a person's credit history. These companies may offer a restoration program to their clients. This program may include teaching the consumer how to repair credit. By sticking to the program faithfully, a consumer may notice credit scores increasing in no time. These financial professionals will also counsel the client on how to avoid filing for bankruptcy. Since bankruptcy stays on a person's credit history for up to 10 years, a different option is very favorable. Some consumer credit counseling centers have established relationships with many creditors, therefore, a client has a good chance that much debt can be negotiated and even eliminated. Negotiations are made on interest rates, late charges and other fees, to adjust the amount charged against the consumer's account. However, with some collection agencies, the elimination or negotiations involving interest and fees may be a fixed amount already posted to the client's account so they may not be negotiable.

Initial consultation through a consumer credit counseling center is usually free. Enrollment responsibilities on the client's part consists of maintaining a savings account and making deposits to cover the negotiated monthly payment. With the client's permission, funds will be withdrawn to pay the negotiated amount. Negotiations are ongoing until an agreement has been reached between the creditor and the client. Nothing will be settled without the consumer's written permission. This process stops the constant harassment by collection agencies and others. As Christians, we are required to handle our money in a godly way. Psalm 112:4 says, "Unto the upright there ariseth light in the darkness." We may despair that we have ruined our financial future and spread a cloud over our witness for our Lord. But God is waiting for us to turn our problems over to Him and proceed under His guidance. Consulting a consumer credit counseling center may be part of the plan to put finances under control.
