Control Your Psoriasis and Reduce Flare-ups with Home Remedies

Although no cure currently exists for psoriasis, you can control your psoriasis with a wide variety of treatments. For the most effective course, you'll want to use natural at-home remedies along with your prescription medications.

The most common way to control your psoriasis is to use an ointment or topical cream. While some of these are over-the-counter, many are prescribed by your doctor. Dovonex, salicyclic acid, tar, and anthralin are all topical treatments.

Doctor prescribed corticosteroids is another common way to control your psoriasis. They help reduce swelling with their anti-inflammatory properties. Some of these may carry side effects, so discuss this option thoroughly with your physician.

If you have an extensive case of psoriasis, you and your doctor might choose to control your psoriasis with ultraviolet light therapy, also known as phototherapy. Phototherapy entails your skin being exposed to ultraviolet light B.

A healthy diet that includes plenty of fresh vegetables can help control your psoriasis. This diet should be low in dairy and meat and include supplementation of the Essential Fatty Acids found in flax seed oil or fish oil.

Many people choose to use an alternative form of therapy to help control their psoriasis. This might take the form of acupuncture or a traditional Eastern form of healing such as qigong. These alternative therapies are meant to complement traditional Western treatment and not used alone.

There are many things in you kitchen cupboard that can help you control your psoriasis. One of these is olive or vegetable oil, which can be added to bath water to help relieve itching. Another is baking soda, which, when added to water, can make a mixture that can be applied to the skin with a washcloth. Apple cider vinegar treatments are a popular way to control psoriasis.

Stress can aggravate the symptoms of psoriasis, so when you control your stress you are also working to control your psoriasis. Take a yoga class at the gym or learn mediation and breathing exercises to help reduce your stress level.

Work closely with your doctor to discover the best ways to control your psoriasis. While there is not yet a cure, there are many steps that you can take to help reduce the pain and the severity of your psoriasis outbreaks.
