Applying eye shadow can be very tricky, not to mention when you get into the more technical stuff like smoky eyes. First though I will discuss the basics and then I will describe to you how to get the smoky eyed look!
Well, perhaps I will just keep the smoky technique for another article. Yes that is what I will do so check back later. The basic part of this session is pretty easy and will typically take you about five minute to do.
Before you begin be sure to wipe your eyelids with a slightly damp brush and a touch of face powder. This will keep your eye shadow from melting. Next you want to choose three shades of the same colors with different tones.
To beign choose three colors dark color, light color and something in between. If you have never done anything like this then buy some inexpensive eye shadow to play around with. Eyeshadow from Target or Walmart will do the trick.
Now begin to apply the lightest shade on the entire lid. Please be gentle when applying. You should apply from the brow to the lash line with a good clean sweep. The medium color is what you are going to apply next.
The purpose of the medium color is to bring out the color in your eyes. Apply the medium along the lash line right above the crease. The darkest color should be applied to close to your lashes.
When putting your eyeshadow on take your time and don't rush. You might risk stabbing yourself in the eye if you move too quickly. When you become a professional then you can move a little bit quicker.
I do this everyday! I love to use a touch of gold shadow on my brow bone to make my eyes look even brighter. You can also find this shadow at Target or Walmart. If I were you I would not spend too much money on this tool which I call a highlighter.
You can use powder(make sure it compliments your skin tone.) or a fat pencil. Some people really like to use the liquid highlighter and have had excellent success. I have not personally used it so I could not give you my personal opinion, but it is probably worth a try.
The tendency is that you eyes get this weird creamy when using liquid. The problem is that it makes the shadow application harder. So be careful when trying different techniques. To see more tips go to http://www.squidoo.com/beautytipsgalore
However,to counteract some these issues you can stay away from bright colors. Subtlety is what looks best all around. Subtlety means softer tones and colors. Softer tones and color will give you a more youthful look that is always flattering.
One last helpful tip is even when using subtle coloring do not layer on the eye shadow too much. If you layer on the eye shadow too much it will look caked on and tacky. I would say in my own experience that one layer of each color works the best. Enjoy and experiment and find what works best for you!
