Get Right With The Environment - Use Hybrid Vehicles!

By Rex Stevenson

Henry David Thoreau once said, "Thank god men cannot fly and lay waste the sky as well as the earth." Today every single person on this earth needs to think of ways in which to be more environmentally friendly, and with the rising gasoline prices, thinking about getting one of the new hybrid vehicles is an excellent, environmentally friendly choice.

Specialists in the environment look favorably on these new hybrid vehicles. Even the makers realize that consumers are asking for them more and more and the future looks very bright for vehicles that use alternative fuels. This is a big change compared to that of just a few years ago, when these cars were very hard to sell.

A hybrid vehicle is a car that is a combination of both an electric vehicle and a gas powered car. They have both an internal combustion engine and an electric motor. This type of vehicle shares both gas and electric energy when it is in use. Today there are two types of hybrid vehicles on the roads, the mild Hybrid, and the Full Hybrid.

Mild hybrids use more gasoline than electric energy and they are better than full gasoline engines, but still not as good as the full hybrid vehicle.

Full hybrids can function on electric energy independently and when they work on electric energy they eliminate those terrible, harmful emissions.

Here is a list of current hybrids on the market:

SUVs * The Ford Escape Hybrid comes in both a 2WD and a 4WD version. The 2WD gets 36 miles to the gallon in the city and 31 mpg on the highway. The 4WD version gets 32 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. * Lexus RX 400h is an all wheel drive vehicle and reaches 27 mpg in the city and 25mpg on the highway. * Saturn Vue Hybrid comes in a 2WD vehicle and get 27mpg in the city and 32 mpg on the highway. * Mercury Mariner is a 4WD vehicle and gets 32 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway. * Toyota Highlander Hybrid comes in both a 2WD and a 4WD. The 2WD gets 33mpg in the city and 28mpg on the highway. The 4WD gets 31 mpg in the city and 27mpg on the highway.

sigh.. look into the resources required in the making of hybrid cars, analyze their costs and environmental impacts.. and tell me they're still better than traditional vehicles.

they're marketed as being eco-friendly, and everyone is falling for the marketing ploy.. buying into it during this surge of environmentalism. of course, you're considered correct if you do agree with something that's accepted by widestream eco-noobs. i suppose im speaking to an audience who doesnt want to hear me because being viewed as an environmentalist is more important than actually being one.
