Health Science Degree

Health science degree programs prepare students for entry into professional programs in wellness related fields such as medicine, physician assistant, nursing and dentistry. This type of education is chosen based on the student's perception of his particular interests. Health science can be defined as the subject of applied science that deals with mammal wellness. There are two areas of to consider: The study, research, and knowledge of and improving of health, curing ailments, and understanding how mammals function. In order to award health science degrees, an institution must teach the student the fundamentals of basic principles.

Research and scientific study is derived from the knowledge in the areas of biological, chemical, and physical studies. Core course required before entering into a health science degree program include Statistics, Introduction to Psychology, Introduction to Sociology and Nutrition. Courses and prerequisites into wellness related professional schools require a grade of "C" or better in Anatomy and Physiology I and II, Organic Chemistry I and II, Inorganic Chemistry I and II, Physics I and II, and Biology I and II.

Recommended elective courses include the mastery of all Algebra, Trigonometry and Calculus courses, Microbiology, Genetics, Abnormal Psychology, and Gerontology. These recommended elective courses give the student of a health science degree the upper hand when faced with competition in enrolling into Medical School. Not all students who receive health science degrees continue into a professional program. These degrees can greatly aid in the employment of a social worker, physical therapist, nutritionist, personal trainer, exercise physiologist, or in chiropractic care. Nurses can also greatly benefit from health science degrees. This type of degree might not be for everyone. It is important to pray diligently for God's direction. He has a great plan for each person, it is just up to each person to listen to what God has to say.

It is important to note that colleges or universities offering this type of education must be accredited by one of six regional accreditation agencies, or by one of the nationally recognized private accreditation agencies. This is important if a student would like to further their education into a professional school. Health science degrees granted from under accredited institutions will not be recognized and are therefore deemed invalid by professional school admissions offices. Once a career or educational path directed towards a health science degree has been established, it is wise to contact a career or academic counselor to determine which educational institution will satisfy particular future goals. It is also important to recognize that an under accredited institution may not be authorized to offer federal financial aid or government backed students loans.
