Home Insurance Tip

Home insurance tips to help consumers save money on premiums are conveniently available through local libraries, insurance agencies, or through online sources. Homeowners can benefit from a home insurance tip on any of the four concerns covered by most policies. Tip No. 1 regarding structure: Ask an agent if there is something that can be done to make a home safer and if there is a discount for doing so. Outbuildings are normally covered, but ask the agent to be sure. No. 2 regarding contents: Photograph the contents of a house and accompany the photos with notes regarding the cost of replacements. This means furniture, clothing, or sports equipment that might be stolen or damaged by natural disasters. Trees and plants are also covered except when damaged by wind or disease. No. 3 regarding liability: The liability portion protects consumers against lawsuits for bodily injury and property damage by the owner or any family members as well as no-fault medical coverage for injuries in the home.

However, consumers or their pets should not expect to be covered in the same manner for any related accidents. Tip No. 4: There should be a provision for living expenses in the event of a fire or other natural disaster requiring the homeowner to vacate a house until it is again habitable. Home insurance tips nos. 5 and 6: Get at least three quotes from different agents who are willing to answer all relevant questions and who agree to raise the deductible in order to lower the premium. No. 7: Buy house and auto coverage from the same carrier because that usually results in a 10-15% discount on premiums. Home insurance tip No. 8: Ask about discounts for home security systems. Remember that flood insurance is not included in a homeowner's policy. Consumers that are in a flood prone area should buy a separate policy to cover that possibility. "For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." (2 Timothy 1:7)

Another suggestion for purchasing good residential coverage is to keep in mind that when calculating home replacement costs, it is generally more advantageous not to include the land value in that figure. No one is going to steal or damage land in the way a house can be destroyed or ransacked so unless a house is on a beachfront, natural disasters are not going to destroy it. For more home insurance tips, talk to a reputable insurance agent and let him further explain how consumers can save money while receiving all the coverage that is needed. A homeowner may reside in a house without ever having anything happen to it but should always be prepared for statistical possibilities. Don't overlook a great home insurance tip that can also be gleaned from a friend and or family member!
