How To Fix A Slow PC Startup

By Michael Baker

Are you having the need of solving the slow start up speed of computers? You have seen your friend's old computer running much faster than your new Pentium IV computer. If your computer has Pentium IV processor and a well maintained windows XP, then it will run very fast even with RAM as low as 128MB and a small CPU. If you feel that your computer is running slow than usual, then there is a need to fix the slow working of computer with the help of software, before going into the hardware.

A software may be at fault and not working properly for the slow working of the computer. There are many things going on side by side which should not have been working with 1s and 0s that you are not even aware of.

Some of the things that may slow the computer down:

1. Decreasing space in the hard drive or it may be getting a bit old. 2. Low memory inside the system. 3. Presence of virus in the computer. 4. Unimportant files in the computer.

Probably the best way to find out the problem in your computer is to remove the easiest problem first and see if the computer becomes faster. You should do some first tasks and then observe what happens to the computer. 1. Delete the files that you do not want, the temporary files, and empty the recycle bin in the system tools under accessories. 2. Scan the disk. 3. Make partitions of the hard disc to remove any already fragmented regions. 4. Run the antivirus software program after an upgrade. 5. Get a registry utility software from the net. 6. Install and run the registry utility program and the program will fix the errors in the files.

The above process should take you about a good twenty minutes to do. Once you have finished everything reboot your system. If this does not make your computer start up faster then you need to look elsewhere at the culprit.

Have a look at the antivirus program of your computer. If it is old or incompatible with your computer, then probably it caused the computer to slow down. You may upgrade the antivirus for this. Run it sometimes in your computer to make sure that there is no malware in the computer.

If the problem still persists, it may be your hard drive that is going bad. Listen to your computer! Are there any strange sounds coming from the machine? One of the symptoms of a bad hard drive is a knocking or clicking noise that shows up either constantly or intermittently. Another symptom you may have of a bad hard drive is the blue screen of death that shows up once in a while. To determine if its your hard drive you can download a hard drive tester to scan the hard drive and see if this is your problem. You may only need to add some RAM memory. Go to system tools and System information to find out how much memory your computer has. A computer running Windows XP should be running at a minimum on 256MB of RAM.

So, there are many things which may be done in order to make the computer work fast. It is just the fact that there is time factor involved in it.
