To lose weight safely and efficiently, you must understand what 'weight' is. Our body weight is comprised of of the weight of our bones, body water, muscle mass and fat. When you lose weight, you are trying to lose the amount of body fat, minimizing the loss of body muscle and keeping adequate water.
And don't fall into the trap of wanting to lose 20 pounds in 3 days - heck, just cut off your legs - but seriously, it's not healthy and not manageable. Your aim is to reduce body fat progressively. Here are 6 tips on how to lose weight and keep it off for good -
1. Getting Bored - If you're having a hard time getting excited about your routine - learn to have fun at the gym. To do that, change things up and try some other options - rowing, biking, sprinting - whatever it takes to work out again.
2. Sweat It Out - When you train, it's not about chatting about your weekend, or taking it easy on a treadmill- it's all about training hard (with very little rest between moves). Fact is, if you want to shed more pounds, high intensity workouts burn more calories than easy, chat on the treadmill routines.
3. Make Your Workouts Count - If you face plenty of obstacles that conspire to keep you away from the gym such as work deadlines, sick kids and the occasional lack of enthusiasm - you're not alone. However, you can help yourself by planning an excuse proof schedule with time efficient fat burning workouts using interval training and a combination of lower and upper body moves. There require very little time, but challenging enough to stimulate your fat burning hormones. More importantly, for females - weight training is essential and you are better off doing strength training to sculpt your body, and interval training to burn the fat.
4. Strapped for Time - You can squeeze exercises into a short amount of time by using intervals training which are fast bursts followed by slow recovery periods. And use bodyweight exercises which you try at home like spider-man push ups, lunges, and mountain climbers.
5. Never Stop Challenging Your Body - Every week, mix it up - create new routine by varying the moves, the intensity, the number of reps and sets. For your body to keep changing, your workouts have to keep changing too.
6. Don't let yourself slack off - Even if you don't feel like working out, tell yourself you'll do at least 10 minutes. when those minutes are up, your endorphines will be pumping and it'll be easier to continue.
Remember, whether it is losing weight or maintaining your weight, always eat healthy. No matter how hard you workout, you just can't 'out train' a bad diet. Getting proper nutrition is the major key to fat loss and staying healthy.
