How to Keep Bees Away From Hummingbird Feeders

By Letho Maseko

Training to be a beekeeper is a time consuming skill that many take seriously because you have to share a passion for something that was once declared a simple hobby to which has joined the billion-dollar food market. The act of beekeeping has grown tremendously since its conception as a hobby, and many people throughout the world enjoy honey because of keepers' efforts.

When beekeeping is a not family industry, many new beekeepers do not have the experience that they need to learn, in terms of biology and what to expect when they produce good honey. Because there are no flowers around in the winter months, bees actually regurgitate their food and store it for survival, a process which gives us honey.

It's amazing that bees have mastered the art of survival during the winter months. Since honey production reaches a peek during the warm months, most beekeepers will need to have another job and because most are farmers, it gives them something to do during the cold months. Don't be fooled into thinking that this is a cheap hobby, because far from being cheap, this hobby can cost you a lot of money through training, especially when it comes to knowing where to set up your bee boxes.

You have to train yourself in entomology so that you do not allow other insects which feed on your bees, which include yellow jackets, hornets, wasps, and mites. Keeping a bee's habitat healthy and free of pests found in nature can be quite a chore and requires a good familiarity with science during training for a beekeeper. Beekeeping stretches back generations in some families, and that generally makes people dedicated and serious about the activity, which is important in any type of beekeeper training.

Often times, people view the skill as something that is passed down through familial tradition and the way of life that they learned through great-grandparents, grandparents, and parents. It wasn't even about making money it was actually just one other chore on the farm, but in the years it slowly progressed into a farm staple that was being sold like it was produce, meat and dairy, but it's still a profitable market anyway you look at it and it's one of the sweetest things in the world.
