Masters Degree in Public Health

A masters degree in public health is an advanced degree in the knowledge and understanding of community ailments, diagnosis, treatments, and prevention methods. Students enrolled in courses are often given current regional and national statistics about contracted diseases and asked to discover preventative methods to downsize or eliminate the disease. This can be an extremely challenging and satisfying way to serve God in relation to compassion and healthcare. Christians seeking a master degrees in public health need look no further. The Lord God said we are to take care of our brothers and sisters. This includes finding ways to eliminate and prevent community ailments. Obtaining the highly intellectual and compassionate program can contribute to that command.

Classes and descriptions typically included in these programs vary, but are all equally important in determining the quality of an educational program curriculum. Some of the more common classes are listed such as Biostatistics, which is an application of statistical methods to problems in medical research. Epidemiology, which is an application of epidemiologic methods to study the etiology, control, and impact on society of selected diseases, and Environmental Health Practices, which highlights the concepts of control methods used by environmental engineering practitioners where topics include water, waste water, solid wastes, food sanitation, vector control, housing, and accident control measures. Those that are not interested in pursuing their education any further should still be advised by a professional to ensure that future employers will recognize their masters degree in public health.

When studying Ethical Issues in Public Health a student reviews problems in resource allocation, research, adoption of technology, and related issues in the context of basic ethical principles. Health Program Planning courses lay a foundation for students' curriculum to learn program planning in community education and other public health areas. This class also provides basic planning principles, processes, and methods using a multidisciplinary approach integrating the use of theory and practice. Most of the above mentioned classes can be found in any masters degree in public health course handbook; however, there are many other classes in addition to these that prepare graduating students with master degrees in public health to gain employment. Isaiah 5:2 says "And he fenced it, and gathered out the stones thereof, and planted it with the choicest vine, and built a tower in the midst of it, and also made a winepress therein: and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes."

If a student plans on returning to school after this education is earned, they should be aware of accreditation requirements in educational institutions in order to transfer credits without any problems. Any college or university that is accredited by one of the six nationally publicly recognized accreditation agencies, or of one of the two privately recognized agencies should not incur problems with transferring credit to advance their education to a higher level. It is advised that prospective students of master degrees in public health obtain professional advice from a school administrator or academic counselor before enrolling in any programs.
