Yesterday saw the official Android developer’s blog release three new applications. Aimed at developers interested in writing for Android, they are useful to anyone using the OpenGL ES 3D graphics APIs. The programs, Triangle, SpriteText and Downloader, are part of the apps-for-android project. If you are getting started on writing programs or games for Android, the project is a valuable resource.
According to the blog:
- Triangle shows how to use the GLView class and the OpenGL ES 3D library to display a spinning textured triangle.
- SpriteText shows how to efficiently display screen-aligned text using the GL11Ext.glDrawTexiOES method.
- Downloader shows how to add a downloader activity to your application.
Being that we’re Android fans here and not Android developers, we’ll save the further discussion for you out there writing apps.
On a related note, we’d love to see what other actual programs are being prepped for Android’s impending debut.
