Singers Can Expand The Vocal Range

By Thomas.L. Smythe

Have you every tried singing in the bathroom and you just have to aim for that high note? Does that spooky sound falsetto happen because when you are attempting the high notes so your voice sounds so thin it sounds like a ghost screaming? Most amateur singers don't have a clue what to do because they haven't gotten the know-how through voice lessons from a professional teacher.

People treat their voices badly everyday with shouting, constantly clearing the throat, coughing loudly, smoking, and yelling. Imagine if you constantly mistreat your voice in this manner day after day. With the limited range of vocal expression that most people use, this can prove very detrimental or harmful to the human voice. A good singer needs to avoid this kind of treatment of their voice, so they must seek the advice of an experienced professional.

As a singer, set aside several hours for a quiet time-out for your vocal cords as this is vital for a singer who needs to perform for an audience. Stop talking and using your speaking voice. Once you start singing and using your voice, do not try to exert yourself too much to reach high pitches. Note that the perfect breathing technique should enable you to reach those high notes effortlessly.

A singer must practice the right breath support as it is an integral part of a singer's skills. In everyday living, notice that breathing involves speaking, exercising, dancing, walking, or anything that involves your lungs to recirculate breath. Note that if you do not take the time to train yourself how to breathe correctly you will not be able to sing higher notes.

If you want to sing falsetto, you don't need to use your lungs at all. When you sing falsetto, you will use the muscles in the neck and throat which singers do not use for actual singing. Try to let go of stress so that that your breath flows easily and effortlessly to reach those high notes, such as using those Lamaze breathing methods for expecting mothers.

Try to sing with scales on a piano or chords on a guitar to see if you can sing higher each time. If that's not possible have someone play flute, clarinet, or saxophone which will also be helpful. A great software tool you can install on your computer is Sing and See software where you will get a visual feedback of your singing, including how high you sing. It's wonderful for an independent student training on his or her own.

If you want to really hear your voice so you can study it, record yourself singing. The best part about hearing your voice sing is the authenticity it has, voice impersonators can sound like somebody but only you can match your real voice. You will have the chance to hear your pronunciations of words and your delivery, and make the necessary corrections if you need to.

When you sing and hear yourself you can match your singing voice as it allows you to know where you are at and how high you need to sing to reach above your own voice. It also gives you a chance to sing harmony and melody with yourself. This also helps to know your vocal range and what you need to work on to achieve the higher notes while you sing.
