Tutorial On Different Variations Of Computer Monitors

By Chris Channing

The many differences between current day computer monitors can be astounding. But learning about the different types of monitors and knowing which are good buying decisions and which aren't is necessary in getting the best deal. After all, it's not just about price- its about how long the monitor will last under continual pressures of everyday use.

CRT monitors are the older types of monitors everyone refers to as the bulky and unnecessarily heavy objects that have become so outdated. The only good thing going for the CRT monitor is the fact that they can last a long period of time, are resistant to some types of failure LCD monitors have, and are generally less expensive as they are older technology.

The debate between CRT and LCD monitor is rather old- but it seems LCD monitors are winning the battle as years pass and newer generations flock to the tech-savvy monitors over the older behemoths. LCD monitors are also dropping in price from when first released, so consumers can usually afford an LCD monitor even if they are on a tight budget. This is especially great for businesses, who are no fans of spending unnecessary money.

A web designer or graphics artist is going to need as much resolution as technology can provide, so that their works will be flawless and well accepted by clients or hopeful employers. In such cases, consumers should opt for the TFT LCD displays, which make use of a thin film of transistors to provide a much higher resolution. If nothing else, such monitors are great for watching movies and video games on one of the highest definitions currently available on consumer-available markets.

Knowing which computer monitor to opt for is important for keeping one's budget in line. CRT monitors are always the better decision where budgets are concerned, since they are cheap to produce and last an extended period of time as well. LCD monitors are becoming much more inexpensive as time goes on, so it may only be a few more dollars just to get a better monitor that takes up less space- and that's always a great decision!

Businesses in particular will need to know what type of monitor to go for in terms of cost effectiveness and dependability. From a business standpoint, LCD monitors have become a better decision for tight office spaces. In earlier times, LCD monitors were less prized because of the "dead pixel" problems they present. New technologies have remedied this problem for the most part, however.

Closing Comments

Computer monitors will continue to evolve and thrive and technology continues to skyrocket with each passing decade. Eventually we'll see the demise of the CRT monitor as we see more innovative types of monitors make their way into technologies and the overall history of computer science.
