Undergraduate business degree programs are an extremely popular choice for those students entering college and wanting a general overview of the business field in order to understand the functionality of our corporate culture. Undergraduate business degrees can specialize in a variety of areas. Management is the most popular, followed by marketing, human resources, and healthcare administration. Each degree program is comprised of a series of core courses that allow a student to explore communications, psychology, composition, natural sciences, mathematics, and history. Once the core requirements have been met, the student can learn the basics of company operations.
All business majors include at least an introductory class in each the above-mentioned focuses. In addition to introductory classes, undergraduate business degree students are required to take at least one economics course and once finance course. Frequently, these majors find that they prefer a multidisciplinary approach to company operations. Therefore a minor specialization is often added to the curriculum. This gives a graduate of one of undergraduate business degrees more marketability when gaining employment. Prospective employers prefer to hire those that have multiple skills to utilize in the workplace. One of the more important things students must learn is how to operate a company with honesty and integrity. "For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty." (1 Titus 2:2)
Typical elective classes included in undergraduate degrees consist of classes like information management, financial management, law, organizational theory and behavior, public relations, small venture management, conflict resolution, cultural diversity and a host of other interesting topics to choose from. Elective courses can also be satisfied by using a combination of previously earned transfer credit, experiential life learning credit, challenge or CLEP exams, or prior professional licenses or certifications. Most of these degrees can be obtained online or through distance education. There are evening, weekend and accelerated undergraduate business degrees being offered at a multitude of colleges and universities.
Tuition varies depending on the university or college, and financial aid is usually determined by need and the status of accreditation an educational institution holds. Typically, distance learning education institutions are required to have the DETC or Distance Education and Training council accreditation. This ensures prospective employers and other educational institutions that the undergraduate business degree earned is recognized by a nationally approved accreditation agency. If the college or university is not distance learning, then all degrees must be approved by one of the six regionally approved accrediting agencies or one of two privately approved agencies. It would be wise to consult an academic counselor about career goals before enrolling any undergraduate business degree program.
