A lot of people don't do much more for their skin before going to bed than giving it a quick wipe with a washcloth. We don't seem to seriously think about how we care for our skin and we think that just because our skin seems to be looking healthy right now, it will automatically stay that way.
In reality it's actually a very good idea to think about our skin care routine as there is much that we can do to improve our skin tone and to prevent things such as blemishes and wrinkles, if we start early enough and follow this routine regularly.
While sometimes our skin's condition is just genetic and there are some things we can't do much about, there are many problems we experience with breakouts and blemishes that can be avoided with a good skin care routine, and with making sure this routine is appropriate for our face and our skin in particular.
Some people go overboard when it comes to skin care and are overly rough or harsh when they cleanse, using soaps and cleansers that are just going to strip their skin of its natural oils and moisturizers. They may do this because they feel that if their skin is breaking out that this means they need to cleanse more or use stronger products. Actually, they could be doing a lot of damage to their skin and even causing these breakouts from cleansing too much. A good skin care routine means using products that are specifically designed for the face, and using them properly.
Another very important part of skin care is a regular routine of moisturizing the skin. Some who have oily skin think that this should be avoided. These people actually should moisturize for two reasons. People with oily skin tend to over cleanse, leading their skin to become irritated and produce more oil, perpetuating the problem. Additionally, some areas of the face do not have oil glands; these are where wrinkles tend to form. These areas include around the eyes and the mouth.
Even if your skin tends to be oily, it is important to moisturize as part of your skincare routine. If you don't moisturize, your body might produce more oil, since it does this when it feels the skin is too dry. The oil glands will produce more pore-clogging oil.
You may find that your skin becomes less oily with regular moisturization " this is because you are no longer stressing this sensitive skin, causing it to overproduce the skins natural oils. This means healthier skin for you.
No skin care regimen can guarantee that you will never have a blemish or develop wrinkles eventually. Both of these things are simply a fact of life. Even the best skin care cant prevent these forever.
A good skin care regimen practiced regularly, however, will keep your skin looking radiant and healthier for a much longer time than if you merely left your skin unattended to. Think of it as exercise for your skin!
