Maui Golf Courses

The magnificent greens of Maui golf courses await avid enthusiasts and spectators alike. Challenging fairways carved from ancient Hawaiian landscapes welcome golfers to a virtual tropical paradise of lakes, tropical foliage and natural lava rock. More than fifteen world-class Maui golf courses offer tourists an opportunity to tee off in the midst of the most beautiful scenery of crystal blue shorelines, white sandy beaches, and exquisite resorts. Each are exclusively designed to delight players of every level, with undulating greens, subtle breaks and lakes. From professionals to amateurs, and weekend enthusiasts, Hawaii's second largest island has something for everyone. Private resort courses, publicly owned, members only, and municipal greens give islanders and tourists an opportunity to improve or show off their game. Spectators will love watching golfers skillfully maneuver through indigenous foliage, lava rock boundaries, and sparkling lakes to a hole in one.

Whether tourists love playing the game or just watching, Maui golf courses offer a feast for the eyes and a sedative for the soul. Cool ocean breezes keep spectators and golfers cool and comfortable, while dramatic waves add a rush of excitement as competitors climb winding greens to set up challenging tees. The view from the fairway is nothing short of sensational, as swaying palms grace the shoreline amidst a sparkling azure sky. The lush Hawaiian landscape is not only perfect for golfers, but ideal for restoring one's mental and spiritual outlook. God has always provided opportunities for restoration in natural settings. "The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for His names sake." (Psalm 23:1-3)

Signature courses, designed by some of the world's most famous designers like golfing great Arnold Palmer and architect Robert Trent Jones, Sr., are second to none. Maui golf courses are world-renown; many of which are regularly frequented by PGA competitors. Centrally located, The Dunes at Mau Lani boasts 18 holes constructed over natural sand dunes dating over a million years old. Ellair Golf Club also offers 18 holes of prime lush greens and gentle fairways. Golfers teeing off at Makena North, home of the Hawaii State Open, may catch a glance at nearly-extinct humpback whales. While Makena South puts players on par with a breathtaking view of the Pacific Ocean. A former whaling village and golfer's haven, Maui's Lahaina Harbor includes five world class resort courses: Kaanapali North and South, Kapalua Bay, Kapalua Plantation and Kapalua Village. The Kapalua Bay Course surrounds gorgeous Oneloa Bay, situated right in the middle of opulent greens. Even the best golfers need the luck of the Irish to steer clear of its iridescent waves. Mauis Kapalua Resort is home to two venues: Kapalua Bay and Kapalua Plantation, and host of the island's Mercedes-Benz Championship, limited only to PGA champion competitors. On the West Maui coastline, Royal Kaanapali North, another Trent Jones, Sr. creation, and Kaanapali Kai South tease avid players with sloping fairways and vivid island scenery.

Discount golf vacation packages abound at most Maui courses, private and public resorts. Kapalua Villas, a condominium community at the 1,650-acre Kapalua Resort, offers some of the best packages. Just north of historic Lahania Town, the Kapalua Villas cater to serious players, tournament pros, and spectators who want more of an experience, instead of a sport. Packages combine luxury accommodations and daily maid service, with car rentals, cart usage fees, resort shuttle service, and multiple rounds on a choice of two 18-hole courses. Accommodations include two or three bedroom villas with two to four guests per room, near the lush green fairways of Maui's most exclusive courses. Room rates depend on the view. Full-view oceanfront units are the most expensive; but rooms facing the fairway or part of the ocean are just as tastefully appointed. Private lanais, outdoor barbecues, kitchens, laundry rooms, and central air conditioning make guests feel right at home between playing rounds, sightseeing, swimming, and surfing Two-story units overlooking the bay offer some spectacular sunset views long after the courses have closed. Nearby exotic restaurants, exclusive shopping, and pristine beaches make Maui a golfer's paradise; discount golf vacation packages only sweeten an incomparable experience in the Hawaiian Islands.

For a nominal resort fee, guests can get shuttle service throughout the resort, have daily newspapers delivered, and make unlimited local, domestic and international calls to keep up with business and family matters while vacationing. From April 1 through mid-December, resort guests can take advantage of Stay and Play packages, which allow golfers to play a round and replay the same course on the same day at no extra charge. Extra-night resort stays also come with 18-hole rounds, shared cart privileges, and car, van or SUV rentals. Extra three- or five-night stays may qualify guest golfers for an additional three rounds of golf. To play five extra rounds, guests usually must stay for a minimum of seven extra nights at the Resort. Discount golf vacation packages are fun and flexible. Golfers can substitute extra earned rounds for full body massages, spa treatments, or one-hour lessons at the Kapalua Golf Academy with professional instructors. Other discount golf vacation packages include coupons for clothing at apparel shops, free resort restaurant meals, and discount air fares. Maui golf courses charge green fees as low as $75 for 9-holes, but average around $160 up to $295 for a full 18 holes. Many private courses offer lower fees to the public during certain weekdays and weekends. Older venues like Waiehu Municipal, in Wailuki, are open to the general public and charge the lowest fees. Courses may be open only to Hawaiian residents, require country club or resort membership, or are private and open to the public on a regular basis. Golfers can browse the web for discount golf vacation packages or to make resort reservations.
