Seat Ibiza Ecomotive 2009

Seat is showcasing a new generation of the Seat Ibiza Ecomotive at the 2008 Paris Motor Show, the leading vehicle in its segment in terms of environmental sustainability thanks to reduced CO2 emissions confirmed at only 98 g/km.

This particularly good-looking, particularly economical addition to the new Seat Ibiza range stands out by virtue of both its magnificent fuel consumption and emission figures and its complete standard equipment list. The new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive becomes the only model on the market to feature both air conditioning and an 80 hp engine producing an emissions figure of 98 g/km, with the added benefit that buyers in Spain are exempt from paying registration tax.

Available in both the 5-door and Seat Ibiza SportCoupé versions, the new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive is equipped with the 80 hp 1.4 TDI featuring a DPF particulate filter. Like its predecessor, the new Ecomotive reduces emissions under the 100 g/km mark, but also cuts fuel consumption to 3.7 l/100 km.

Undoubtedly, the updated engine software contributes to achieving these results, as well as improvements to the gear ratios, and this car's overall dimensions, which all contribute to lowering emission levels to 98 g/km compared to the 114 g/km of the standard version.

As for gear ratios, the entire gear range has been lengthened, especially third, fourth and fifth. The objective is to optimize the working revs area to make the engine work around the lowest consumption revs.

Optimised fuel consumption and emission levels are further achieved by the new 175/70 tyres, which provide less surface friction, and the 14" wheels with closed hubcaps, which generate less air resistance than open alloy wheels.

Better streamlining

Vehicle aerodynamics is another area that has been developed to reduce both consumption and emissions figures. The new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive features several solutions such as a newly-designed closed front grille and a new rear spoiler. Wind resistance is reduced, thus lessening the effort required by the mechanics of the vehicle and consequently cutting fuel consumption and emissions. The car's smaller width also has a streamlining effect.

Thanks to the DPF as standard equipment on the new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive, the soot particles emitted by the diesel engine are filtered out. The engine control unit continuously checks the state of the filter, activating regeneration in order to burn off the accumulated soot particles when required. Thanks to this system, the particulate filter does not require any maintenance during the car's service life.

Complete standard comfort and safety elements

The new Seat Ibiza Ecomotive is equipped with the same comfort and safety features as the rest of the Ibiza range, in Reference trim level, with the addition of exclusive new seat upholstery, body coloured door handles and mirrors, and double parabolic headlights.

The following standard equipment is available on the Seat Ibiza Ecomotive - ABS, driver and passenger airbag, head-thorax airbag, MP3 audio equipment + Aux-in and six speakers, electro-hydraulic power steering, 175/70 tyres on 14-inch steel rims and hubcaps, anti-theft roof aerial, steering column controls, air-recirculation + pollen filter, remote controlled central locking, front seatbelt reminder, rear seat Isofix anchoring points and Top Tether preparation, height adjustable driver and passenger seat, and three height adjustable rear head restraints, among other features. Selected markets also feature standard ESP and TCS + EBA, Hill Hold Control and low tyre pressure warning.

A variety of options are also available on the Seat Ibiza Ecomotive such as rear parking sensor, cruise control, air conditioning, and cornering foglights, among others. Besides these, the car's maximum weight has been reduced by carefully choosing the equipment list, eliminating certain options, and working on the base model to keep it within the desired weight range.
