By encouraging recipients to forward an appealing advertisement along to friends, those who receive the message will perceive that it came to them via a friend. A company benefits even more if customers see that other people they know are participating and getting involved on the promotion as well. People are more likely to pay attention to an electronic message if coming from a friend or close acquaintance. This also provides a way for the customer to relate to a company, product or service, and feel that the benefits are worth the potential cost. A business is also able to track the popularity and effectiveness of an advertisement campaign to discern the best ways of optimizing marketing strategies. If an ad does exceptionally well with a particular client base, then the company will know what kind of customer to target. Incorporating viral marketing ideas can go a long way in ensuring the greatest rewards for the time and effort invested is saved from pursuing more expensive methods of advertising that might not prove as rewarding.
