Halloween Party Theme

Halloween party themes can range from harvest festivals all the way to the most gruesome of haunted houses with all points in between, depending upon the host of the celebration and the situation. Selecting a Halloween party theme has been a tradition for families, schools, and other community organizations in America since the 1800s, as fall celebrations were kicked off with the crisp autumn breezes and light-hearted good spirit of a fall harvest. Americans have been mixing their fall harvest traditions with the Celtic holiday of the dead, brought to this nation from the influx of Irish at that time, for nearly two hundred years now, and parties, costumes, and sweet treats are traditions that are now deeply steeped into our culture.

Most parties are centered around ghostly ghouls and witches in black hats, making the most of the mystic haunting climate that the very word, "Halloween" summons in the spirit. And, a Halloween party theme does not guarantee a party success unless it evokes terror, quickened hearts, and surprises at every corner. One must truly reach into the darker corners of their creativity to muster up a good old-fashioned scare with fun Halloween party themes. Click the link to take a cool Halloween party theme quiz.

But, are witches in black, images of the dead, and children trembling in fear really fun? Would a harmless party full of pumpkins and corn harvests be a better choice for celebration themes? Should a Christian choose a frightful Halloween motif or one that celebrates the coming of winter and the victories of fall reaping? The answer for Christians is, neither. Hosting a celebration with a Halloween party theme on this particular date should not be a consideration for anyone who has given his or her life to Christ and now belongs to Him, living a life for His purpose.

We were created to glorify God, and this is the purpose of our life now. "Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him; yea, I have made him." (Isaiah 43:7) Halloween, associated with ancient Celtic holidays of the dead roaming the streets, current and practicing witches, and satanic rituals has nothing to do with glorifying Christ. Some Christian are determined to focus on the good of the dark holiday with neutral party themes, attempting to pull the spotlight away from the occult festival. But God's word tells us to be pure in all that we do, and to do nothing, not one thing, that is associated with evil. "Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil." (1Thessalonians 5:21-22)

So, even the simplest of indulgences on a night set aside for evil would be misrepresenting all that Christ died for. "Knowing that Christ be raised from the dead dieth no more; death hath no more dominion over him." (Romans 6:8) A Halloween party theme is dishonoring to Christ because Halloween party themes honor all that Christ is against. "Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour." (1 Peter 5:8)
