Halloween stories can capture the attention of the youngest of listeners to the most elderly of ears. A good Halloween story summons a quickened heartbeat and a racing pulse. Spine chilling, teeth chattering, nail biting accounts are a key ingredient to a party night hit! Coming up with great stories to tell can send story seekers digging for make believe or bona fide creatures to haunt the imaginations of folks, young and old, for years to come. But where does a Halloween enthusiast find a great chronicle to tell?
Interestingly, the origins of Halloween make for a pretty spooky Halloween story in itself. Once one comes to a knowledge of how and why this night is celebrated and exists, one might better understand why practicing Christians either half-heartedly partake in the event, or shun the holiday all together. The original account of this festival is a real-life spiritual tale that dates back hundreds of years, and is being relived yearly, here in the modern United States. October 31st hosts a night where humans display the reality of the spiritual truth of those who have not found the way of salvation offered by a loving God. ChristiaNet's website has a wonderful Bible quiz on Heaven and Hell, and if the curious are looking for a taste of the drama of the darkness of hell, then this would be a good place to find a realistic Halloween stories that can frighten.
The original festival of the dead was first called Samhain (pronounced Sah-ween) by ancient Celtics and was a day when hostile spiritual beings were allowed to wander about the earth inflicting torment on humans. To keep the dark spiritual forces at bay, the Celts would put out food, fruits, or nuts to appease the wandering spirits. Also, the Celts would wear costumes that resembled the ghostly dead to hide themselves among the walking supernatural spirits. Celtic priests would offer sacrifices, animals and children, as a means to appease the spirits further. Satanic cults still practice these sacrifices today and modern day witches from the Wicca occult celebrate the day as a powerful day of the dead and the most opportune time to make supernatural contact with the dead. This is one horrific Halloween story.
Today, Christians are called to tell a different story - one just the opposite of Halloween stories of dark and death - and it is a tale of light and life. Christians are to have nothing to do with the events or with tales of darkness. "And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them. For it is a shame to even speak of those things which are done of them in secret." (Ephesians 5:12) Paul the Apostle is very clear in explaining that Christians are to manifest light.
Paul also teaches that Christians are to take no part of worldly practices that associate with the evils of darkness. "And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable and perfect will of God." (Romans 12:2) Halloween stories of the dark forces of the spiritual world are more realistic than we even know.
