Determining credit repair strategies can be a daunting task especially if identity theft and credit card identity theft have occurred. However, a person must not get discouraged. With the increasing occurrence of fraud affecting the nation, more government agencies, private businesses, and corporate companies are prepared to help a person avoid identity theft and help repair any damage that may have occurred. Even if a particular company cannot help with the repair themselves, most are apt to know where to send a victim of fraud and identity theft. Many credit card companies have credit repair strategies of their own and offer preemptive measures in signing up for a card.
The best place to start in understanding credit repair strategies is to look at measures to avoid identity theft. Taking early precautions can help an individual avoid being a victim of identity theft and fraud. Some suggested measures of protection are knowing one's credit report, being aware of a company's legitimacy and values, and following several standard safety procedures. Theft can occur in broad daylight, not only by taking a person's material possessions, such as a wallet or purse, but theft can also occur in broad daylight when the thief can view and easily take personal information. One key for safety is to ensure that no one can view the entering of passwords or other forms of access codes, such as for a building or car. A second key in protecting personal information is to install and always keep editions of computer firewalls and virus protectors up-to-date.
If theft has occurred, or an individual has lost a wallet or purse, the person needs immediately to call their bank and credit card companies. Both entities will determine the best credit repair strategies for the person. Several of the options available are to freeze an account until a determination of the account is made. A second option is to put fraud alerts on all cards and bank checks. Another option could be to close all accounts and begin new. A great solution for quickly handling post theft repairs is to have copies of all pertinent information. A copy of the front and back of all cards, ID's, and other information can assist an individual in quickly calling and obtaining the assistance needed for credit repair strategies. After a person has called their primary companies and bank, the individual must call the local police to file the proper reports. Consulting with the bank, credit companies, and police are three key areas to get a person's identity cleared from the harsh affects that fraud can cause.
Unfortunately, identity thieves are everywhere and can steal a person's identity from anywhere. Those preying on others often dig through the trash or go dumpster diving to find any personal information, which can be used to steal an identity. Identity crooks tend to appear on the doorsteps of innocent, and often elderly, people to gain access into their homes and personal lives. Unsuspecting people have become victims because another person has disguised themselves as repair workers or employees of other such occupations. An individual should keep an eye on their mailboxes too. Identity crooks have been known to forward mail and place address changes too. If a person notices less mail or no longer receives magazines, bills, or other forms of statements and is suspicious of foul play, he or she should contact the local post office and enquire about potential solutions. The post office should be able to track any changes occurring for the person. Mail fraud is a serious offense. Because of the serious nature of mail fraud, the post office will take extreme precautions and will not let the matter rest until the office is sure no crime has been committed.
Individuals should be cautious about trusting personal information to companies claiming to offer credit repair strategies. A person should be cautious in dealing with any entity requiring private facts. A company claiming credit repair strategies should be able to offer the client data of the company. If a company hesitates in offering knowledge to a potential customer, the customer should seek other solutions. "The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly" (John 10:10).
In taking preemptive measures of knowing one's credit report and score, a person can keep track of their credit history. Knowing and reviewing a report, at least once a year, can help familiarize a person with what a report looks like and what a person needs to watch for regarding potential errors or theft. An individual must be aware of what potential fraud might look like. In reviewing reports, the person should take careful notes. If a discrepancy is noticed, a call to the reporting company needs to take place immediately. Disputing a claim can be taxing on an individual. Several methods for dealing with companies and trying to obtain credit repair strategies is to be direct and know what has and has not transpired financially in the past. A person must keep track of each conversation, which deals with clearing up discrepancies. A potential solution for keeping track is to log information on a computer, such as the day and date, time, representative of the company who they spoke with, and brief specifics of the conversation, and then send the information to their own email. The solution provides a legitimate way to record the facts. In sending the information to one's email address, the email in the inbox shows to others that information is being recorded, and a person is serious about a resolution.
