How To write a Childrens Book And Get It Published

By Thulas Sukati

Every author that has a book to publish likely has a large number of questions about the procedures involved. If you are a new or unpublished author, you will find that these questions are particularly troubling. For your convenience, below are the questions that are most frequently asked by those trying to break into the publishing world. As an effort to help you if you are in the same boat as those unpublished authors, the following questions have been included below.

Question: Is it easy to get a book published?

Most writers receive rejection letter after rejection letter and it is of course possible that you may still be able to be published, but only after a good deal of rejection first. But really good authors know that letting rejection letters discourage you from continuing to try is silly. Most authors receive these rejections, which means your favorite and most well-known authors succeeded only after being handed pile after pile of rejection letters. Missteps and a whole lot of time are essential ingredients in getting the right publisher who will fit your needs and the needs of your book.

Question: How much money can I make?

As for determining how much money you can make when getting your book published, you will find that it honestly all depends. The deal you make with your publisher, along with the length and genre of your book will make a big difference on how much you are paid. As a general rule of thumb, books which are longer in length are considered far more "valuable" and these books will likely make more money.

Question: Do I need to have a literary agent?

Many people in the internet community will definitely tell you that you should get a literary agent if you are serious about your publishing endeavors. You will encounter some publishers who will not work with authors without an agent but this is not universally true, however. Make getting your book published on your own first a priority, then worry about getting a literary agent.

Question: How do I find book publishers?

One of the easiest approaches to take is with the purchase of the Writer's Market guide or another similar resource. This will be helpful because it will give you specifics in what each publisher is looking for plus it will also outline different publishers by genre. Some other websites give this information, but it is always better to go straight to the source. Many times, these websites will also give outlines of detailed information that is useful to writers and would typically be in a writer's guide.

Question: What are my chances of being published?

There is no one determining factor that will decide how difficult it is for you to obtain the dream of getting your book published. Take a good look at how many publishers you have approached because the more you make contact with, the more likely you are to be successful in securing a deal. To further help you, look at the average number of books that your Writer's Guide says each publisher publishes each year. This is a good indicator of your chances at being published. Most importantly of all, don't let the rejection letters force you to quit.
