Stop Hospital Overcharges

It didn't matter what unit I worked on. Whether it was on the floor as a tech or in the intensive care unit as a registered nurse, I have seen a lot in my career. And as you might expect the patients I cared for were all grateful for the care they received.

It is terrible to be sick, and when you are you don't think about the associated cost of treatment. You just want to be well. I have even had family members tell me that they wanted "everything" done for the patient. They were not concerned about the cost only treating the patient.

But the surprise comes later, maybe weeks later when the hospital bill arrives. Most I am sure are extremely grateful for the treatment they received. But they are also perplexed, how could a three day stay in the hospital could cost tens of thousands of dollars.

No doubt you have heard stories about out of control costs and bills being sent to collections, they are easy to find online. And I can imagine the anxiety and sleepless nights some must feel, not being able to pay there debts.

Everyone needs an advocate from time to time. Nurses do it frequently in the hospital on behalf of their patients. So with that in mind, we will examine some actual hospital bills, on these bills there are errors and overcharges some in excess of 400%.

Some resources are on the internet and are very helpful. Other examples come from personal experience. And there is nothing better than personal experiences.
