Substance abuse treatment is vital for any person who is suffering with an addiction to drugs or alcohol because finding a way to treat the problem can lead to not only life-saving changes, but a better quality of life for the addict. Different options include group meetings, interventions, drug abuse treatment facilities, church support groups, and even medications. The first step in the right direction is for the addict to accept the fact that there is a problem and they need help to overcome it. Family members who are waiting for this day to come can, for the moment, decide on options and make offers to the addict. Prayer is a extremely important in this type of situation. The addict should be lifted up in prayer constantly by those who love him or her. "Let my prayer come before thee: incline thine ear unto my cry" (Psalm 88:2).
More and more often today, families and friends of addicts are starting the healing process with an intervention. This is when the people in the addict's life gather together at an unannounced time and place to confront the addict about his or her problem. This is not meant to be a finger-pointing session, but rather a time for family and friends to let their loved one know their fears and concerns. It is also meant to gently convict the addict and inspire them to admit they have a problem. Sometimes it works, leading to substance abuse treatment, and sometimes it doesn't work. This depends on the addict and the confronters. A time of prayer should always begin and end an intervention.
Those with the money to spare will find more options out there to break an addiction after a successful intervention. The most expensive drug abuse treatment can be a treatment facility. These are all over the country and it is not hard to find one within a few hours from home. Each are very different. Some rely heavily on withdrawal and medical aid. Others rely on nature and a calming atmosphere for substance abuse treatment. A stay at such a facility can last anywhere from a few weeks to a few months, depending on the severity of the addiction. Most allow the addict to check themselves out.
The other, less expensive options include groups. These people meet up to several times a week to hold each other accountable for their addiction. The drug abuse treatment is in accountability and bonding. Addicts share their stories and form friendships. They encourage each other. This form of substance abuse treatment can be very effective, especially when it is Bible-based. Freedom from an addiction through Christ can lead to not only a drug-free lifestyle, but freedom from sin as well.
